Jones Day’s Shireen Matthews Named to San Diego Business Journal’s 2025 500 Most Influential Leaders

Jones Day partner Shireen Matthews has been named to the San Diego Business Journal's 2025 SD 500: 500 Most Influential Leaders. The SD 500 recognizes leaders whose recent accomplishments, community involvement, and lasting impact shape San Diego's business community.

As a former federal prosecutor in the Southern District of California, Ms. Matthews led complex fraud matters, including violations of the Anti‑Kickback Statute and criminal false claims. She handled multiple felony trials and argued several appeals before the Ninth Circuit. In private practice, she advises companies on internal investigations, builds compliance programs, and defends high‑stakes government inquiries. Recent achievements include a full victory for a health care provider in a parallel proceeding that resulted in complete dismissals of both the civil and criminal complaints.

In the community, Ms. Matthews serves on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, Scripps Health, and the San Diego Federal Bar Foundation. Ms. Matthews also currently serves as the Chair of the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the Southern District of California. She has also been recognized on the San Diego Business Journal's "AAPI Leaders of Influence," "Business Women of the Year," and "Women of Influence in Law" lists—collectively reflecting her professional excellence and deep commitment to the San Diego community.
