Practice Leader Global Disputes

ワシントン + 1.202.879.3679

In his nearly 35 years at Jones Day, Greg Shumaker, head of the Firm's Global Disputes Practice, has helped lead some of the Firm's highest profile engagements, including serving as one of the lead trial lawyers for both the City of Detroit and Chrysler Corporation in their historic bankruptcy proceedings. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation particularly in U.S. bankruptcy courts as well as criminal, regulatory, and congressional investigations involving allegations of fraud and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and False Claims Act.

Greg recently concluded a successful representation of a group of over 100 investment fund defendants in litigation in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the S.D.N.Y. that sought to claw back payments the funds had received in GM's bankruptcy on a $1.5 billion secured term loan to GM based on a mistakenly filed UCC-3 termination statement that referenced the term loan. In 2015, he helped lead a team that convinced the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware to dismiss with prejudice a complaint against Fidelity Investments alleging a $400 million breach of contract in a dispute over bonds held by certain Fidelity funds during a failed effort to restructure Energy Future Holdings Corp.

Greg oversees the Firm's expansive Global Disputes Practice comprised of over 200 lawyers around the world who handle international arbitrations, non-U.S. litigation, and cross-border investigations for the Firm's clients.

He has been a member of the board of directors of the Notre Dame Law Association since 2002 and served as its president from 2008 to 2009. He also has been an instructor at Notre Dame Law School's Interim Trial Advocacy Program.
