Thomas McIver focuses his practice on high-stakes civil litigation, including commercial disputes, consumer class actions, and mass tort claims. Thomas also represents institutional clients in securities, antitrust, bankruptcy, and ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) litigation, as well as in regulatory and criminal government investigations.
Thomas's recent experience includes serving as a key team member in a months-long jury trial over toxic tort claims, where he argued motions and prepped fact and expert witnesses for testimony. Thomas serves clients at every stage of litigation by developing case strategy, managing all aspects of fact and expert discovery, and drafting dispositive briefs at the trial and appellate levels. Thomas also maintains an active pro bono practice, including the representation of indigent defendants in federal court.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2024, Thomas worked at a law firm in Washington, D.C., where he represented financial institutions and corporate clients in civil litigation matters across the country and successfully defended against class action lawsuits before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the Southern District of New York, and the Eastern District of Virginia. He also won a trial victory in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Houston.
