Dennis Murphy is a first-chair trial lawyer with more than 30 years experience in mass tort, product liability, and commercial litigation. He has tried dozens of cases; defends against class actions and claims by individuals for personal injury, medical monitoring, RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act), and unfair competition; and coordinates complex litigation nationwide.
Dennis represented commercial sterilizer Isomedix in mass tort, environmental exposure personal injury claims, including at trial, to a successful resolution. He also helped successfully defeat medical monitoring claims against Isomedix. He has tried product liability cases for R.J. Reynolds for decades, in courts around the country, including in Illinois, Washington, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, and New Mexico. This includes defense verdicts in multiple plaintiff-friendly jurisdictions. He has coordinated litigation for Reynolds in Ohio, New York, Louisiana, Washington, and Iowa, among other places. Dennis was lead counsel at trial in Michigan and Kentucky for orthopedic implant maker Zimmer, Inc. (now Zimmer-Biomet) and related entities in cases arising from Zimmer's acquisition of competitive distributors. He also successfully defended Zimmer in RICO, antitrust, and employment litigation. Dennis has obtained injunctions for Zimmer and other clients enforcing noncompete, business contracts, and other obligations. He has defended Macy's in business litigation and Sherwin-Williams in public nuisance lead paint cases.
Dennis serves on the Firm's Lawyer Training Committee and regularly conducts training on trial practice. He is active in the Firm's pro bono practice and is an author of the Ohio chapter in Tort Law Desk Reference — A Fifty State Compendium (Aspen).
