Bijan Tavakoli advises on public commercial law and regulatory matters, with a focus on litigation and regulatory disputes. He represents clients in proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union and the General Court, German civil and administrative courts at all levels, and before German, EU, and international authorities and institutions, including the European Commission, the European Central Bank (ECB), Federal Ministries, and state regulators.
For more than a decade, Bijan has advised on complex matters at the intersection of EU, constitutional, and administrative law, frequently in cross-border and business-critical situations for multinational corporations and regulated industries. He has a strong track record in defending clients against administrative action, challenging regulatory decisions, and handling high-profile litigation before the EU Courts. He also advises on public law aspects of M&A transactions and strategic compliance projects.
Bijan's practice further covers environmental and planning law, public procurement law, permitting, ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and supply chain due diligence, as well as aviation law, telecommunications law, energy and infrastructure regulation, sanctions and export controls, and security-related regulatory matters. He is experienced in matters involving industrial plants, PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated substances) and other contamination issues, and circular economy law, including crisis response and regulatory risk mitigation strategies.
Before returning to private practice, Bijan served at the United Nations Secretariat in New York as an associate legal officer. He was also a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law and clerked for the Frankfurt Commercial Court and the German Foreign Office.
