As a veteran trial lawyer, Christian Platt represents leading innovators in cases involving patent infringement and validity, trade secrets, and licensing, successfully resolving complex disputes in the courts, arbitral tribunals, and the U.S. Patent Office. He has tried more than a dozen matters to verdict or award across jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations. The Daily Journal recognized him for a "Top Defense Result" of the year following a three‑week jury trial that resulted in a verdict of noninfringement.
Christian has extensive experience handling life sciences disputes relating to gene therapy, cell therapy, gene editing, antibodies, plasmids, cell lines, proteomics, liquid biopsy, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and transgenic animal models. He also handles matters involving other technologies, including telecommunications, electronics, software, networking, and medical devices such as noninvasive patient monitoring.
Clients and peers recognize his practical insights. The Legal 500 US described him as "very professional" and someone who "does a great job presenting a case." Christian has written and spoken extensively on litigation strategy and patent damages, including authoring a chapter in Life Sciences Client Strategies (Aspatore). He regularly presents to in‑house counsel and industry groups — such as the ABA — on topics ranging from trial strategy to the evolving law on the safe harbor exemption and damages.
He serves on the Council for the American Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section and on the Board of Governors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
Christian is the administrative partner for the San Diego Office.
