Yaakov Roth, former Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General of DOJ Civil Division, rejoins Jones Day

Yaakov Roth will rejoin Jones Day as a partner in its Issues & Appeals Practice, returning from his service as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. He is based in the Firm's Washington Office.

In his role at the Justice Department, Mr. Roth served as the senior deputy overseeing the Civil Division, one of the largest litigating divisions in the Department. The Civil Division is responsible for defending the interests of the United States in a wide range of matters, including federal programs, commercial litigation, false claims litigation, consumer protection, immigration, and appellate cases. As Principal Deputy, Mr. Roth played a central role in shaping the Division's litigation strategy and managing its extensive docket. While at DOJ, he served as Acting Assistant Attorney General for four months and argued 11 appeals, bringing his career total to more than 50.

Prior to his government service, Roth was a partner at Jones Day, where he built a distinguished practice in appellate and constitutional litigation. He has argued multiple cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts of appeals and is widely recognized for his skill in complex civil and constitutional matters. A former U.S. Supreme Court clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia, Mr. Roth earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School
