Since 2013, Jones Day attorney volunteers in in Pathways to Law program have taught law-focused classes to students at middle school students at Pilgrim Academy in the Houston Independent School District. In the past several years, Jones Day has been joined by attorney volunteers from Chevron, meeting weekly with students in class and organizing various field trips. For the 2020-2021 school year, Pathways to Law adopted a virtual format for the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Pathways volunteers and students successfully completed a year of distance learning.
Pathways to Law is designed to encourage professionalism and critical thinking, introduce students to legal issues involving the First and Fourth Amendments, and facilitate public speaking experiences for the students. It has also seen its alumni achieve success in college and prepare to embark on professional careers.
