Civil liberties groups urge affirmance of Florida prison kosher-food injunction

Client(s) ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union)

Jones Day represented the ACLU, the ACLU of Florida, and the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty as amici curiae before the Eleventh Circuit, supporting the affirmance of a preliminary injunction requiring Florida to provide a kosher diet in its prisons. The District Court granted the injunction in a challenge filed by the U.S. Department of Justice. The amicus brief filed by Jones Day deconstructs and refutes Florida's claim on appeal that providing a kosher diet would be unduly expensive.
