Jones Day appointed appellate counsel in challenge to Ohio parole regulations

Client(s) Martin, Donald

The Firm was appointed to represent an inmate in the Ohio state correctional system who had appealed a decision by the Northern District of Ohio dismissing a class action challenging changes in Ohio’s parole regulations.  Specifically, the inmate class contended that repeated changes to Ohio’s parole regulations after their sentencing created a significant risk of increased incarceration, in violation of the ex post facto clause of the U.S. Constitution.  Lawyers from the Issues & Appeals and Business & Tort Litigation practices jointly prepared the brief, and oral argument was held in October, 2012.
