Jones Day advised John Muir Health with respect to the formation and development of John Muir Health Medicare ACO, an organization comprised of approximately 200 primary care and specialty physicians serving Medicare beneficiaries in Contra Costs County, California. The John Muir Health Medicare ACO was recently selected to participate in the Medicare Accountable Care Organization Program, and is the first California 1206(l) medical foundation to qualify to participate in such program. The Medicare ACO program, part of the federal health care payment reform under PPACA, provides qualifying organizations the ability to share in the cost-savings achieved through improvement in the quality and efficiency of care rendered to Medicare beneficiaries participating in the Medicare ACO program.
