FocusDriven - Advocates for Cell-Free Driving gets assistance in raising awareness

Client(s) FocusDriven - Advocates for Cell-Free Driving

Jones Day assisted FocusDriven – Advocates for Cell-Free Driving to incorporate in D.C. as a nonprofit corporation and to apply for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service. FocusDriven is an entity formed by a group of individuals who have lost family members due to cell phone distracted driving. The organization is dedicated to decreasing the number of auto accidents that occur due to cell phone distracted driving and to supporting victims of distracted driving accidents and their families. The U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Safety Council are supportive of the efforts of FocusDriven as cell phone distracted driving has become a national crisis. FocusDriven hopes to raise public awareness of the problems created by cell phone distracted drivers and to make the roads safer for everyone by reducing the number of people talking on the phone or texting while driving. Jones Day is also helping FocusDriven obtain trademark protection for its name and logo and to qualify to do business in multiple jurisdictions. The U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, held a press conference on January 12, 2010 praising the group and stating that FocusDriven is a leader in the efforts to reduce distracted driving.
