Thad Lopatka represents clients in complex commercial litigation, including mass torts, insurance recovery, international arbitrations, restructurings, and patent disputes. He has extensive experience in all phases of litigation, from drafting pleadings and dispositive motions, taking ad defending depositions, working with expert witnesses, preparing for trial, and developing arguments on appeal.

Thad plays a central role in high-stakes matters across multiple practice areas. He is part of the trial team in a mass tort defense involving more than 8,000 plaintiffs across multiple state and federal jurisdictions who allege a pesticide caused Parkinson's disease. He also represents an IT infrastructure company in complex litigation pending in multiple federal courts against a former contractor who misappropriated confidential files. And he represents an aerospace manufacturer in a contract dispute over incentive payments tied to performance of a satellite.

Prior to Jones Day, Thad represented a bank pursuing more than $240 million in insurance recovery related to an oil refinery explosion; a commodities trading firm in a $300 million international arbitration involving oil misappropriated by a foreign government; a pharmaceuticals company in Federal Circuit and Supreme Court appeals relating to patents for insulin formulations and delivery devices; and the first-lien creditors of an energy services company in its successful chapter 11 reorganization.

Thad maintains an active pro bono practice, assisting clients with the National Veterans Legal Services Program, in immigration matters, and in appealing wrongful convictions with the Innocence Project.
