Laura Kanouse focuses her practice on biotechnology and pharmaceutical intellectual property litigation. Her experience includes representing clients in various U.S. district courts and before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Laura leverages her technical background to defend and enforce clients' intellectual property rights in cutting-edge technology, including CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats), proteomics, small molecule drugs, bioelectronics, and medical devices. Her litigation experience includes all phases of pretrial litigation. She has drafted motions, assisted with hearings, managed discovery, and deposed several fact witnesses. Laura also has worked extensively with expert witnesses, including assisting in drafting expert reports and preparing expert witnesses for depositions.

Laura is also deeply committed to pro bono work and community involvement. Currently, she is lead associate on a trial team seeking grant of asylum for a family of four as part of the Firm's Border Project. In addition, she serves on the Advisory Board for Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, a nonprofit organization that provides legal assistance and educational programming to artists and inventors.

("SHEnB"), a Korean manufacturer of medical devices for the health & beauty industry, and two of its distributors against patent infringement claims brought by Serendia, LLC before the International Trade Commission.
  • Ricoh resolves Lanham Act case involving its global "imagine. change." tagline in D. Minn.Jones Day defended Ricoh Co., Ltd. and Ricoh USA, Inc. in a Lanham Act case in the District of Minnesota in which a commercial printing company accused Ricoh of infringing certain trademarks owned by the plaintiff.
  • Specialty engineered woods manufacturer reaches settlement in trade secret and supply agreement disputeJones Day represented an industry leader in the manufacture of specialty engineered wood products in a lawsuit against a supplier involving allegations of misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract, tortious interference, and unfair competition.
