Sean Callagy is an experienced commercial litigator whose practice focuses on intellectual property law, particularly in relation to cutting-edge technologies and in the intersection of copyright law with technological developments. He has represented clients before federal and state courts in disputes pertaining to copyright, patent, trademark, and trade secret laws; contract and business tort laws; the Sherman Antitrust Act; and state statutes on unfair trade practices. Sean's significant courtroom experience in all stages of litigation, from preliminary remedies to post-trial motions, also informs the counseling and pre-lawsuit advice on IP matters that he provides to clients.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2026, Sean was a California-based partner at a major international law firm, where he worked for more than 15 years. Representative matters from that time include resolving allegations against a major technology company for having potentially copied and used a copyrighted dataset for machine learning purposes; counseling and litigating for a multinational technology company with respect to copyright and trademark infringement claims implicating digital services offered in the United States and overseas; matters involving the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA); and representing a major multinational footwear manufacturer in U.S. district courts and the Federal Circuit in numerous matters that raised patent, trademark, false advertising, and business tort issues related to proprietary designs and manufacturing methods.

Sean maintains an active pro bono practice that has included work on behalf of veterans and victims of domestic violence.

Sean is also an avid sailor, and in 2022, he was part of a two-man team that won the U.S. National Championship in the International 110 sailboat class.
