Steve Beresheim focuses on representing R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in smoking and health litigation in Florida and the Southeast. Through this representation he has gained considerable experience in numerous aspects of litigation and has been a member of the trial team in several cases.
Most recently Steve was a member of the trial team in the Hall case that was tried in Florida state court to a complete defense verdict. He was also a member of the trial team in the Little case that was tried in South Carolina District Court and in which Reynolds won directed verdict. In addition to his experience as a trial team member, Steve has participated in numerous other phases of litigation, including pretrial, post-trial, and appellate.
Steve is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Georgia Product Liability Section) and The Florida Bar.

On February 25, 2015, Jones Day client R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, along with Philip Morris USA and Lorillard Tobacco Company, entered into an agreement to resolve virtually all Engle progeny cases pending and not yet tried in the Florida federal courts.

Reynolds Tobacco Company in Reynolds' first trial of an "Engle progeny" lawsuit (Gelep v. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Case No. 98-006584-CI-13 (Fla. 6th Cir. Ct.)).

Jones Day client Rohm and Haas Company obtained summary judgment in a lawsuit brought in the District Court for the Northern District of Georgia by Arch Chemicals, Inc. and Arch UK Biocides, Ltd. involving a three-year requirements contract for the sale of biocides.
R.J. Reynolds appeals rulings in smoking and health case to Florida appellate court and U.S. Supreme Court
In this smoking-and-health case, Jones Day secured a defense verdict for R.J. Reynolds at trial on all of the plaintiffs' claims except the claim for design defect strict liability, for which the plaintiff-smoker was awarded only $165,000 and the plaintiff-spouse recovered nothing.
R.J. Reynolds files brief in Florida Circuit Court to strike plaintiff's claim for punitive damages in smoking and health case
Following the judgment of Florida's Third District Court of Appeals in Liggett Group, Inc. v. Engle, Jones Day was asked to help R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company prepare a brief seeking to strike plaintiff's claim for punitive damages in this smoking and health case.
