Asylum granted to Honduran mother and child fleeing gang violence

Client(s) N.O.G.

Jones Day client N.O.G. fled Honduras with her minor daughter N.G.O. after she received multiple death threats from a Honduran gang. These threats, and other acts of violence against N.O.G.’s family, occurred after N.O.G. served as a prosecutorial witness in the murder trial of one of the gang’s members. Jones Day submitted N.O.G.’s application for asylum and represented her before an immigration judge in Arlington, VA. In a decision from the bench, the Immigration Law Judge granted N.O.G. asylum on January 19, 2017, finding that she was a member of the cognizable “particular social group” of witnesses who testify against a gang member.
