Joe Farley advocates for clients in complex, high-stakes disputes, concentrating his practice on patent infringement litigation before federal courts nationwide. He advises domestic and international companies in matters pending across the United States, before the International Trade Commission, and in inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His docket spans an array of sophisticated technologies — including mechanical, electrical, and medical devices; pharmaceuticals; semiconductors; jet engines; autonomous-driving systems; CRISPR gene-editing platforms; advanced material coatings; and Universal Serial Bus technologies — reflecting the breadth of his technical acumen.
Joe is seasoned in every phase of patent litigation. He has served as a key member of trial and appellate teams, conducting and defending fact and expert depositions and examinations, overseeing extensive discovery, and crafting dispositive motions and appellate briefs that have driven favorable outcomes. Complementing his litigation work, he has prosecuted hundreds of patent applications and prevailed in numerous oral and written arguments before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Before entering private practice, Joe honed his legal skills through judicial clerkships at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Joe also serves as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) with the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
