Prateek Viswanathan litigates patents in district courts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His practice spans multiple technologies, including mobile payments software, solar panel fasteners, medical devices, and consumer products.
Prateek has experience in all stages of litigation, from pre-lawsuit investigations to trial and appeals. In particular, he has first-chaired pro bono matters and taken witnesses on direct and cross-examination. As part of multiple trial teams in high-profile matters, he has also prepared witness outlines, trial demonstratives, and mid-trial briefings.
Before joining Jones Day in 2026, Prateek litigated at a large law firm in Minnesota, where he helped obtain what is believed to be the largest patent infringement jury verdict in District of Minnesota history, in a matter involving pre-lit Christmas trees, for which the Minnesota Lawyer named his team "2024 Attorneys of the Year for Willis Electric v. Polygroup." He also clerked for Judge C.J. Williams in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.
Prateek’s pro bono practice focuses on representing domestic violence survivors in family court to obtain orders for protection and harassment restraining orders. He is also an active member of the Minnesota Disability Bar Association and leads fundraising efforts during the annual Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid Associates' Giving Campaign.
