Raymond Shek focuses on complex multijurisdictional commercial litigation, arbitration, and investigations. He has a proven track record of guiding clients through high-stakes disputes involving general commercial claims, corporate insolvencies, fraud, professional and audit negligence, shareholder and investor disputes, anti-bribery and corruption matters, and construction claims.
Raymond acts for listed companies, liquidators, multinational corporations, banks, private equity funds, and high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs). Clients value his strategic, commercial approach and his ability to deliver practical, results-driven solutions. Prior to joining Jones Day, Raymond represented a litigation trust that was created following the collapse and reorganization of a former Canadian-listed company that purported to own forest assets in China, including pursuing litigation in various jurisdictions: Ontario proceedings against the main fraudster, the company's former CEO, resulting in a US$2.6 billion judgment, and enforcement proceedings in several jurisdictions and Hong Kong proceedings against the company's auditors, resulting in a settlement following a full trial. He also represented liquidators of one of the largest Hong Kong-listed Chinese property developers, liquidators of a former Hong Kong-listed metal recycling company, a widow of a deceased Russian oligarch on Hong Kong noncontentious probate matters, and a HNWI in litigation arising from the construction of a luxury estate.
In addition, Raymond worked on: a multijurisdictional dispute amongst investors over fund management, the recovery of misappropriated funds in an investment scam, an arbitration arising out of a shareholders' agreement against the largest shareholder of a major Korean insurance company, an investigation involving an international engineering firm on anti-bribery and corruption issues, an international oil and gas corporation in an internal tax-related issue investigation, and a subcontractor in an arbitration involving a metropolitan rail project in the Middle East.
