Cyril Christiaans advises clients in matters involving commercial contracting, with a focus on IT/outsourcing contracts.
With over 35 years in practice, Cyril is considered to be one of the Netherlands' most experienced advisors on international commercial contract law matters. Cyril advises clients on IT and outsourcing, distribution and franchise agreements, consumer law, and e-commerce, among other things. Cyril's practice also includes technology-related M&A transactions.
The clients Cyril represents are active in a broad range of industries, including telecommunications, automotive, software and hardware, IT outsourcing service providers, e-commerce, life sciences, and consumer products. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2026, Cyril was involved in the European introduction of a U.S. manufacturer of electric automobiles and power storage systems and the introduction of the world's largest e-tailer/marketplace in Europe.
Cyril coauthors the Kluwer commentary on the UN "Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods" and authors the commentary on the "Convention on the Law Applicable to Agency." Cyril also authored the Netherlands' chapter to the American Bar Association's International Franchise Sales Laws book. Cyril is a frequent lecturer at various legal post-graduate institutions, such as the Grotius Foundation, Law@Work, the Law Firm School, and several universities.
Cyril is a member of the ITechLaw Association, the Dutch Society for Information Technology and Law (NVvIR), the Dutch Association for AI and Robot Law (NVAIR), and the Association for Distribution, Franchise and Agency Law (DFA).
