Joel Breckler represents Australian and international clients in a broad range of complex commercial litigation matters before state and federal courts.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2026, Joel practiced at a leading U.S. litigation boutique. While there, his practice focused on complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution for plaintiffs and defendants. He acted on matters involving leading Australian and international companies across a diverse range of disputes, including insurance recovery, energy and resources litigation, and contentious regulatory matters. Joel also worked as a solicitor at a top-tier Australian law firm, where he gained exposure to a range of international commercial disputes, including class actions, financial services litigation, contractual claims, and regulatory investigations.
Joel's prior experience includes acting for the administrator of Greensill Bank (following the collapse of Greensill) in a series of claims against insurers (exceeding $2 billion) on various trade credit insurance policies. He also represented Santos Energy in Federal Court proceedings in Munkara v Santos NA Barossa Pty Ltd, successfully resisting an application seeking to restrain construction of an undersea pipeline, which forms part of the $5.8 billion Barossa gas project.
