For more than 20 years, Jeff Baltruzak has represented leading steelmakers, universities, energy developers, industrial equipment manufacturers, asset managers, nonprofits, and banks in high-stakes commercial and personal injury disputes across the country. He has developed litigation strategy and led teams defending and prosecuting trade secret, business competition, corporate negligence, wrongful death, civil rights, valuation, earn-out, and securitization litigation.
In 2025, Jeff's team defeated trade secret misappropriation claims brought by a competitor against SMS group, the leading international equipment maker for the steel and metals industries. He defeated Lanham Act claims on behalf of a leading wireless infrastructure company in 2024. Between 2016 and 2022, he defended a leading bank in a series of disputes brought by residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) deal sponsors seeking to pass on billions in liabilities in the wake of the 2007-2009 financial crisis. He also defends name, image, and likeness (NIL) and football concussion lawsuits brought by former student-athletes. On the plaintiff side, he has recovered tens of millions for policyholders in insurance coverage disputes related to long-term environmental liabilities and pollution policies.
Jeff has received the Seventh Circuit Bar Association's Pro Bono and Public Service Award for outstanding pro bono work for the United States District Courts of Illinois. He is a member of the board of directors for the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh.
