Kay-Jannes Wegner is both civil and common law qualified and has practiced international arbitration for more than 25 years in London, South Korea, and Singapore. He has achieved successful solutions in complex disputes around the world and has managed large case teams in high-stakes matters.
Kay-Jannes has advised on defense sector, construction, infrastructure, power, and energy projects and has acted in cases involving shareholder and joint venture disputes, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, automotive, commodities, power generation, life science, and shipbuilding. In addition to acting as counsel in proceedings under the rules of major arbitration institutions, Kay-Jannes has experience sitting as arbitrator in international disputes.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2025, Kay-Jannes represented a European defense company in a number of arbitrations involving two projects for the supply of specialized assets. He also handled an arbitration for an Asian client against an Asian power plant owner over a turbine blade failure. He acted in a dispute arising from concession agreements executed by the parties for the exploration of oil and gas in Pakistan and advised on a dispute concerning the charter of a liquified natural gas (LNG) floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
In addition, Kay-Jannes handled arbitration proceedings against a Korean company regarding a contract for construction of a large warehouse in South Korea based on the FIDIC Red Book (International Federation of Consulting Engineers) and led various arbitration proceedings relating to the automotive sector.
