Alexandre Verheyden is co-chair of the global competition practice of Jones Day. With a focus on antitrust and competition law and significant experience in transatlantic mergers and cartels, Alexandre represents major corporations and governments before the European Commission, European courts, and national authorities. He is also co-leader of Jones Day's Antitrust & Competition Law Practice.
Alexandre concentrates on complex merger cases. He recently represented NVIDIA in its acquisition of Mellanox, successfully obtaining unconditional Phase I clearance. He also represented Wabtec in its acquisition of Faiveley in a Phase II case and Huber in the sale of its Silica business to Evonik, which was cleared with commitments.
His experience spans all fields of competition law including abuse of dominant position/monopoly offense, cartel, merger, and State aid cases. His recent cases include the successful dismissal of a Commission investigation under Articles 101 and 102 TFEU of the pricing practices of a leading global chip manufacturer and the dismissal of a Commission cartel investigation of a leading automobile parts manufacturer.
Alexandre has successfully litigated a damage claim for anticompetitive conduct that resulted in a landmark settlement of €120 million and successfully represented several clients in the auto parts cartel. He also has strong State aid experience representing companies and governments.
Alexandre has served as co-chair of the Communications Committee of the International Bar Association. He was a winner of the 2012 Antitrust Writing Awards for the article "EU Court of Justice Provides Guidance on Abusive Margin Squeezes" and was a scholarship recipient of the Belgian American Educational Foundation. He has authored articles regarding competition law and speaks regularly at conferences. He was previously admitted to the New York State Bar.
