Bijan Tavakoli's practice focuses on public commercial law. He has substantial experience with complex matters before German and EU authorities and courts, including the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

For more than a decade, Bijan has advised clients on the full range of public commercial law, in particular on environmental, telecommunications, aviation, and energy law issues. He frequently defends clients against administrative actions by national and EU authorities, including the Federal Network Agency, the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control, Federal Ministries, Regional Supervisory Authorities, the European Central Bank, and the EU Commission. He has represented numerous clients in litigation before the CJEU, arbitral tribunals, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), United Nations (UN) bodies, and all types of German administrative and civil courts, including appellate courts and the Federal Administrative Court.

In addition, Bijan regularly advises clients on ESG-related (environmental, social, and governance) matters, including on supply chain due diligence. He is highly experienced in environmental and planning law issues arising out of the operation of industrial plants, including permitting and contamination issues with respect to pollutants such as PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated substances). Moreover, he regularly advises clients on circular economy law matters.

Bijan served for several years as Associate Legal Officer in the United Nations Secretariat in New York. In addition, he was a Research Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law and clerked for the Frankfurt Commercial Court, the German Foreign Office, and for the German Development Cooperation (GIZ).
