Chris Spiers has a unique combination of experience representing health care and life science clients in all aspects of litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution. Chris rejoined Jones Day in 2024 after representing a large California-based hospital system as in-house litigation counsel. In that role, Chris gained an understanding of the operational and financial functions of health care providers by handling many of the hospital system's commercial, managed care, and employment cases. Chris also led the company's response to investigations by state and federal regulators, as well as conducted trainings for business personnel and attorneys regarding California's regulatory environment.
Before moving in-house, Chris was an associate at Jones Day representing health care clients in significant litigation throughout the country. During that time, Chris successfully litigated two multibillion dollar antitrust lawsuits on behalf of a large hospital system in state and federal courts. Chris also managed several cases across multiple jurisdictions for a large retail pharmacy, where he advised on policy decisions that impacted hundreds of cases. In addition, Chris effectively defended a large Southern California hospital system in False Claims Act litigation.
Chris is dedicated to maintaining an active pro bono practice. He has successfully obtained asylum for an immigrant fleeing severe abuse in Cuba. He also has experience assisting disabled veterans apply for military benefits.
