John Paul Putney represents financial institutions, health care providers, and international corporations in complex commercial disputes, investigations, and insurance coverage matters in arbitration and in state and federal courts.
He has substantial experience as a litigator and recently defended financial institutions in connection with disputes arising out of residential mortgage-backed securities, including RMBS trustee litigation, repurchase claims, and other RMBS contractual disputes. He has assisted in the representation of UPMC in several high-profile contractual disputes with Highmark, including a commercial arbitration that resulted in UPMC recovering more than $200 million. John Paul has acted as lead counsel for Experian with primary responsibility for discovery, dispositive motion practice, and settlement negotiation. He has taken depositions, coordinated case management, drafted motions, worked with expert witnesses, and prepared fact and expert witnesses for deposition and trial testimony. John Paul also has represented policyholders in insurance recovery matters. His experience in this area includes litigation and coverage analyses under CGL, D&O, and environmental policies and supervision of underlying defense counsel.
John Paul is committed to the Firm's pro bono practice representing veterans and unaccompanied minors seeking immigration relief.
