Makiko Ushijima has more than 20 years of experience advising on investment funds, cross-border finance, and M&A transactions at major international law firms. Her representations include investment managers/broker-dealers, insurance firms, and fintech firms with their acquisitions/sales of local operations and joint ventures with local partners. She provides regulatory advice on disclosure, local license/registrations, and securities trading compliance as well as anti-money laundering (AML). She also advises on ESG (environmental, social, and governance) investment and corporate governance. She has extensive experience in capital markets, including global equity and debt securities offerings. In addition, she has assisted multiple corporate and professional firm clients on governmental investigations and cross-border commercial disputes.
Makiko currently serves as an independent director of a Japanese corporation listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. She is also qualified as a CPA in Illinois.
