Emma Long is a registered patent agent and chemical biologist with a background in post-translational modifications and their roles in cancer biology. Emma's practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution in the chemistry and life sciences. She also performs patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2026, Emma received a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, where she studied O-linked glycosylation, utilizing carbohydrate chemistry to synthesize metabolic analogues used to visualize, identify, and manipulate glycosylation in vitro. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Bristol Myers Squibb, where she used heterobifunctional molecules to study oncogenic proteins through modulation of phosphorylation and ubiquitination. She has coauthored several peer-reviewed publications, including a book chapter on glycosylation.
