Collin J. Kurtenbach

Collin Kurtenbach's litigation practice focuses on representing clients in asserting and defending their patent and trade secret rights before U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and in confidential arbitrations. In the patent arena, Collin emphasizes his bioengineering background to assist clients in complex Hatch-Waxman litigation, having seen several matters though discovery and one through trial. In a recent Hatch-Waxman trial, Collin argued several evidentiary motions and took the direct examination of an expert. He also has worked with clients litigating intellectual property rights relating to medical devices, biotechnology, semiconductors, smartphones, recreational vehicles, gaming systems, and industrial equipment. His trade secret experience includes both asserting and defending clients' rights under the federal Defend Trade Secrets Act and similar state trade secret laws.

Collin's practice runs the gamut of a typical case. During his career, he has been intimately involved in pre-lawsuit due diligence, drafting of complaints, overseeing discovery, drafting motions, preparing for and taking depositions of fact and expert witnesses, working with experts to prepare for trial, trial, and post-trial briefing. His attention to detail makes him a valuable member of any trial team.

Prior to attending law school, Collin worked in the research and development and intellectual property departments of Cardinal Health. During this time he assisted in the design, development, and legal protection of medical devices. He also supported the company in its mergers and acquisition work by validating and onboarding certain intellectual property.
