Head of the Firm's global Energy Practice, Jeff Schlegel has more than 25 years of experience in leading international and domestic M&A and project development transactions for energy industry participants, particularly in oil and gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), chemicals/petrochemicals, renewables, and energy-related infrastructure. His M&A experience includes public and private buy-side, sell-side, and joint venture transactions in the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas industry and chemicals/petrochemicals, LNG, and other capital intensive industries. His project development experience encompasses transactional, structuring, engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and other commercial arrangements. Jeff also has represented domestic and multinational companies in a variety of public and private transactions, including inbound and outbound investment, and cross-border transactions in a wide range of industries in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and North America.
Jeff's recent engagements include close to $400 billion of: upstream and midstream energy projects, joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions, and financings, particularly in the United States active oil and gas shale plays; LNG import and export projects and transactions in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia; refining, logistics, and other downstream transactions in the United States and the Asia/Pacific region; the development of multiple world-scale facilities; and oil field services transactions in the United States, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
Jeff is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, a past chair of the International Section of the Institute for Energy Law, a regular speaker at energy conferences, and a past editor of the Texas Transnational Law Quarterly, published by the State Bar of Texas.
