Jones Day hosts New Lawyer Group Academy with associates participating in a Day of Service
Client(s) JD Pro Bono Practice
In early November, Jones Day welcomed 181 new associates from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas to its Washington Office to participate in the Firm's New Lawyer Group Academy. The Academy, which has been held each year since 1984, provides orientation and training programs to our new associates. The 4-day program involves a variety of meetings with partners from around the globe, and includes presentations on the Firm's corporate, litigation, and regional practices, as well as the Firm's recruiting, diversity, and pro bono initiatives.
This year's New Lawyer Group also participated in a Day of Service, a Jones Day tradition in which lawyers, staff, and family members from each of our offices participate in a community service event. Our new associates filled 600 backpacks with donated school and personal supplies for distribution to needy children. "Besides benefiting some deserving kids now, this project is a great way to start our new lawyers thinking about the need for ongoing community service," said Laura Tuell Parcher, Jones Day's Firmwide Partner-in-Charge of Pro Bono, who is based in Washington.
The backpacks will be distributed by three Washington area organizations: The Children's Law Center, which provides legal services to at-risk children and their families; the Consortium of Catholic Academies, which provides support for students at four inner-city Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Washington; and the Capital Area Immigrants' Rights Coalition, which provides services to detained and unaccompanied immigrant children in Washington, Virginia, and Maryland.
