Dan O'Donnell is a finance lawyer focusing on complex multisource financings in the energy transition and infrastructure sectors. Dan enjoys working with clients and colleagues to navigate complex bankability, commercial, and regulatory issues to deliver financing structures that support the global energy transition and major infrastructure projects.

Dan advises lenders, sponsors, developers, and green investors on the full project life cycle, including development and construction financings, operational refinancings, acquisition financings, portfolio level structures, and on the financing elements of public and private M&A.

Dan has advised clients on a broad range of asset classes, including thermal and renewable energy technologies, low-carbon and renewable gas (including biomethane and hydrogen), emerging technologies, nature-based projects (including sustainable forestry and biodiversity net gain), core and core plus infrastructure, and digital infrastructure. Examples of his experience prior to joining Jones Day in 2026 include advising a syndicate of seven commercial lenders on the £235 million construction financing of two utility-scale battery storage projects developed by Zenobē in Scotland (this transaction was the largest project finance facility for BESS [battery energy storage systems] projects arranged in Europe at the time); FI1 Limited, an SPV (special purpose vehicle)-owned by the founders and originators of the NeuConnect interconnector project, on the sale of its stake in the project companies and on FI1's rights and obligations in connection with the £2.2 billion project financing; and Alfanar Global Development on the project development and financing of five residential communities in Saudi Arabia procured by NEOM worth SAR (Saudi riyal) 21 billion.
