Lucy Shanahan represents Australian and international clients in a variety of contentious matters, with a particular focus on commercial disputes in the financial services sector.
Most recently, Lucy acted for a global bank in two high-profile proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia — the first involving major allegations of invoice-financing fraud and the second concerning claims in contract and misleading and deceptive conduct against an Australian Securities Exchange (ASX)-listed entity.
Since joining Jones Day in 2021, Lucy has advised the Australian subsidiary of a global telco company; acted for a former director of a financial services institution in two class actions; represented multiple parties in a property law dispute in the Supreme Court of New South Wales; acted for an energy company in a contractual dispute; advised a multinational company with subsidiaries in more than 15 jurisdictions on a global debt restructure; and advised companies on compliance, corporate governance, and risk management.
Lucy has a keen interest in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and also has a pro bono practice in which she advises a national NFP (not for profit) on issues of social justice.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Lucy worked as a tipstaff to Justice Rowan Darke in the equity division of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
