Tim Lanzendorfer represents clients in complex litigation before federal and state courts. His experience includes health care litigation, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) claims, disputes arising out of commercial contracts, and constitutional property rights litigation. Tim also has experience briefing cases on appeal.
With an emphasis on brief writing designed to bring clarity to complicated legal issues, Tim has defended multiple health care providers facing novel theories of liability related to the No Surprises Act. Through that cutting-edge work, Tim recently helped to obtain a complete dismissal with prejudice for health care providers defending against civil RICO and fraud claims. Tim currently defends fiduciaries in a class action lawsuit under ERISA. Tim has assisted clients across many stages of litigation, from dispositive motions to discovery disputes to appeals before the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fifth, Sixth, and Ninth Circuits.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Tim served as a law clerk to Judge Eric E. Murphy of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and to Judge Douglas R. Cole of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
Before attending law school, Tim had a career in Ohio politics and government, which included serving as the political director for a successful gubernatorial campaign and as the Deputy Director of Boards and Commissions in the Ohio Governor's Office. Tim currently serves as an appointed member of the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission, and his legal scholarship has been cited in litigation before the Ohio Supreme Court.
