John Lee focuses his practice on intellectual property, with an emphasis on patent litigation. John has represented international and domestic clients before U.S. District Courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), as well as in mediation. His experience spans a broad range of technologies, including wireless communications, the 802.11 Wi-Fi standard, mobile applications, consumer electronics, and fintech.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2026, John practiced at a national law firm, where he represented a leading global technology company in high-stakes matters at various stages of litigation, from pre-lawsuit investigation through trial, and litigated on behalf of domestic companies.
Before practicing law, John served as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where he reviewed applications in artificial intelligence and machine learning, focusing on neural networks, deep learning, and computer vision, as well as autonomous vehicles, image processing, medical imaging, and highly complex matters such as pre-GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) applications.
