Matt Critchley is a commercial litigator who has acted on disputes involving financial services, corporate governance, insolvency, IT infrastructure, and shareholder issues. Matt is recognized as a leading litigation lawyer for dispute resolution, insolvency, restructuring, and reorganization by Doyle's Guide, Best Lawyers, and Legal 500.

Matt has handled complex and sensitive disputes for major Australian banks and institutions for more than 20 years. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2026, he successfully resolved significant disputes for clients involving a breach of contract in relation to the trade in and resale of mobile phone devices worth more than $1 billion, the collapse of a managed investment scheme and related claims worth more than $700 million, and an Australian fintech and asset management firm in a high-profile insolvent trading claim.

He also has experience acting in corporate governance matters, including an off-shore trading scheme involving more than 50 different companies and 2,000 investors, IT disputes for a major automaker, and financial institutions for defective platforms. He also has acted in some of Australia's most significant insolvency disputes involving contaminated land and hydrocarbon storage and shareholder issues involving corporate oppression cases.
