Boards, CEOs, and general counsel turn to Ryan Thomas when competition law issues become critical to business strategy. Ryan advises leading U.S. and multinational companies on transformative acquisitions, government investigations, complex litigation, and strategic business initiatives where antitrust considerations are central to corporate strategy. He is particularly known for guiding clients through matters at the intersection of competition law, innovation, and global regulatory policy.
Ryan represents clients before the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general, and competition authorities worldwide. He has secured antitrust clearance for hundreds of domestic and cross-border transactions and represents clients in merger litigation, monopolization investigations, cartel matters, and other high-stakes proceedings. He currently advises clients on several of the market's most closely watched transactions, including Kroger's proposed acquisition of Giant Eagle and Union Pacific's proposed combination of Norfolk Southern.
Ryan provides strategic advice to boards, senior executives, and in-house counsel on matters involving artificial intelligence, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, and other innovation-driven industries. He advises on strategic transactions, joint ventures, competitor collaborations, information sharing, pricing and distribution practices, and antitrust compliance, helping clients navigate evolving enforcement priorities while achieving their commercial objectives.
Ryan has represented clients in many significant antitrust matters, including NVIDIA's acquisition of Mellanox, STERIS's successful defense of its acquisition of Synergy Health, and Essilor's combination with Luxottica. Recognized by Chambers as a leading antitrust lawyer, clients describe Ryan as "a great strategic thinker who appreciates the business pressures" and praise his ability to provide "clear and actionable guidance."
