Mike Gladman has been helping clients prevail in their most important and complex commercial disputes for more than 30 years. He is head of litigation for the Columbus Office.
Mike represents companies in litigation with, and under investigation by, the government, consistently leading them to outright victories and "no action" outcomes. Mike represented Expedia, Hotels.com, and Hotwire in hotel tax collection lawsuits brought by Ohio municipalities, winning district court and Sixth Circuit victories. He also successfully defended Experian in investigations brought by 32 state attorneys general into the credit reporting industry, an electronic voting machine manufacturer against the government's breach of contract claims, and a custodial bank in a federal pay-to-play investigation.
Mike also has extensive experience trying and winning high-stakes contract, construction, and energy disputes. He obtained a multimillion dollar judgment for United States Steel after a three-week federal jury trial by winning a directed verdict on plaintiff's breach of contract claims and prevailing on a U. S. Steel counterclaim. Mike also was part of a trial team that secured a judgment in the Southern District of New York for American Electric Power in a 20-year power contract dispute that culminated in a $263 million payment to AEP.
Before joining Jones Day, Mike served as Principal Assistant Attorney General in the Business & Government Regulation Section of the Ohio Attorney General's Office and as an Assistant State Solicitor. He serves on the boards of the Columbus Bar Foundation, as well as Columbus Humane, whose mission is to help animals in need.
