Samuel Ellis focuses on intellectual property (IP) disputes, with particular emphasis on patent, trademark, and copyright litigation. He has worked in the fields of aerospace/defense, pharma, medical technology, energy, tech, and general engineering.

Samuel has developed significant experience across a range of complex IP matters and has been involved in proceedings across every level of the court system, including the United Kingdom IPO Tribunal, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court. He also has experience advising clients on the commercial exploitation of IP rights, including licensing and risk assessment.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2026, Samuel gained experience in front of appellate courts that included acting for a Swedish food company concerning the registrability of their trademark (the Supreme Court) and assisting a leading bathware manufacturer in overturning a finding of patent infringement (the Court of Appeal). In addition, Samuel has experience at first instance, including defending a manufacturer in the aerospace and defense industry in patent litigation proceedings (the High Court) and representing an international gaming and gambling company in trademark proceedings (the High Court and UK IPO Tribunal). Samuel also has experience advising clients in IP disputes before alternative dispute resolution forums, including London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) proceedings, involving digital music licensing and royalty matters.
