Opened in 2004, Jones Day’s newest California office has more than 30 professionals. We are strategically located in Carmel Valley and staffed to serve San Diego’s dynamic, entrepreneurial, and fast-growing center for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, wireless, and information technology industries.
The San Diego Office initially focused on providing patent strategy and portfolio management for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Today, the office boasts full service intellectual property, labor and employment, and litigation practices in many additional industries, including renewable energy, medical device, food, software, and telecom. Our lawyers litigate patent and trade secret disputes, negotiate joint venture, strategic alliance, licensing and other technology-based commercial transactions, and diligence patent portfolios for potential acquirors and investors, such as venture capital firms and other life science companies. The office includes trial lawyers experienced in white collar criminal investigations and defense, product liability defense and other commercial litigation, as well as all aspects of labor and employment law -- areas for which Jones Day is world-renowned.
The San Diego Office works closely with Jones Day corporate, securities, M&A, bankruptcy and real estate lawyers in Irvine, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Silicon Valley to provide all of the legal services an established public or private company or entrepreneur, emerging company, angel fund, venture capital fund or other acquirer, investor or seller might need. Through Jones Day’s One Firm Worldwide approach, our San Diego attorneys are integrated into our global organization of more than 2,500 lawyers in 32 offices. This affords our clients seamless access to substantial legal resources wherever needed, whether in San Diego, California, the United States, or internationally.
While committed to our global presence and our growth throughout California, we are just as committed to San Diego. We provide pro bono services thru Casa Cornelia, SDVLP and SDCBA, and support a number of San Diego civic, cultural, and non-profit organizations like CONNECT, UCSD, BioCom, San Diego Opera, Helen Woodward Animal Center, Walden Environment and the American Cancer Society.
