Rhys Phelps advises numerous clients on complex, cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures, and strategic alliances. He advises across multiple industries, including aerospace and defence, real estate investment, hospitality, tobacco, mining, and health care.

Rhys has recently advised: LaSalle Investment Management on its agreement to acquire the Real Estate Multi-Manager business of Aviva Investors, with $7 billion (€6.05 billion) of assets under management, as well as Encore+, an open-ended Continental European real estate fund with a gross asset value of $1.967 billion (€1.7 billion); Owens Corning on its €900 million (US$1.04 billion) acquisition of Paroc Group, a leading European mineral wool manufacturer; Henderson Park, the European real estate investment platform, in connection with its acquisition of the flagship London and Birmingham Hilton Metropole hotels; Reynolds American Inc. on the $49 billion acquisition by British American Tobacco plc of 57.8 percent of Reynolds not already owned by it; Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation PLC, the diversified natural resources group, on multiple transactions including the $1.25 billion acquisition of the DRC assets of First Quantum Minerals Ltd; and STERIS PLC on various acquisitions and disposals involving the health care sector.

Rhys spent nine months on secondment to Goldman Sachs in London, supporting the legal team for Goldman Sachs' Real Estate Principal Investment Area, and six months on secondment to the M&A legal team of BAE Systems PLC.
