Jones Day expands London Litigation Practice with double partner hire

September 2008

Jones Day is expanding its London litigation practice with the appointment of two new partners from the London office of Mayer Brown. Stephen Brown and Michael Brown join during a period of growth for the practice, which has achieved a series of high-profile case wins this year including Goldshield's victory against the Serious Fraud Office and the successful resolution of the Langbar International case.

Stephen Brown is a corporate litigator with experience across the energy, chemicals, telecommunications/TMT, and pharmaceuticals sectors. He has represented clients in disputes involving substantial warranty and other contractual claims and advises pension scheme trustees on litigation matters. Competition litigation also makes up a large element of his practice.

Michael Brown focuses his practice on banking and finance litigation. He advises U.K. and overseas banks and financial institutions on domestic and international disputes involving the commercial and investment banking sectors. He has experience in fund and asset management disputes, the enforcement of security, and recovery of funds lost through fraud.

Stephen and Michael both join the practice in September and will be joined by associate Sarah Cawthra, also from Mayer Brown. This follows the arrival over the past year of Harriet Territt, who joined from Allen & Overy as Of Counsel, and two senior associates, Robert Sully and Barnaby Stueck. All three have returned to Jones Day having previously worked at the Firm.

Craig Shuttleworth, head of the London litigation practice, comments: "The London team has had a highly successful year and has been thriving. We want to capitalize on that success and will continue to invest further in the team. We are looking forward to having Stephen and Michael on board."

Jones Day has the largest global litigation practice with a team of more than 1,100 across 30 offices.
