Chevron affiliate wins international arbitration against EPC Contractor

Client(s) Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Ltd.

Jones Day successfully represented a Chevron affiliate in an AAA (ICDR) administered arbitration under UNCITRAL rules in a dispute over construction of a 12-mile-long oil pipeline located off the coast of Angola, Africa. The dispute concerned defective welds, delay claims, and extra work claims. The arbitration panel’s award rejected the contractor’s claim for US$24 million in damages and awarded CABGOC US$9.2 million on its cross-claim.
