EmilyGoldberg Knox

Emily Goldberg Knox's practice focuses on complex civil litigation and appellate advocacy in state and federal courts. Her experience spans a range of areas, including products liability, public nuisance, antitrust, unfair business practices, fraud, class actions, terrorism, and transnational torts.

Emily has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and has handled many aspects of litigation, including consulting on viable claims; drafting pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs; leading discovery efforts; preparing fact witnesses; and arguing motions at trial. She also has experience with international arbitrations.

In addition to her litigation practice, Emily has experience counseling clients on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics, including human rights and sustainability claims.

Emily maintains an active pro bono practice, representing indigent prisoners and individuals in civil rights cases. Most recently, she represented an Afghan refugee in a case under the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, which resulted in a favorable settlement for the client.

Emily served as a law clerk to Judge Robert L. Wilkins of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and to Judge Beth Labson Freeman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Prior to attending law school, she served as an open source intelligence analyst focusing on the Middle East and as a recruiter for U.S. government-funded legal reform and rule of law projects. Emily has a master's in international politics, with a focus on international security and terrorism.
