An acknowledged leader in the profession, Carl Kukkonen has 20 years of experience in strategic intellectual property counseling. Specifically, Carl advises clients on patent infringement and validity, preparation and prosecution of patent applications, and brand protection matters. He also has extensive experience performing IP audits and due diligence for companies and investors in commercial transactions such as mergers and acquisitions and public offerings.

In addition, Carl has significant experience in structuring and negotiating IP aspects of corporate and technology transactions, including licensing, acquisitions, asset purchase, development, and other partnering agreements.

Carl has prosecuted patents on behalf of individual inventors and large multinationals in high-technology/software, medical devices, and energy technology. His experience in the high-tech arena includes database technologies, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, ridesharing/carpooling, enterprise software, cloud computing, big data, blockchains, mobile phone software and hardware, IoT, semiconductors, telecommunications, nanotechnology, optical devices, computer and microchip architecture, virtual reality, and signal and image processing.

In the area of medical devices he has handled matters related to medication delivery devices, wireless health care, digital health, bedside patient monitors, incubators, infusion pumps, physiological sensors including cardiac monitors and blood pressure devices, ophthalmic technologies, and bone fixation plates and systems.

His energy technology experience includes process and atmospheric sensors, solar panels and control systems, utility-scale energy distribution systems, energy efficiency technologies, water and wind turbines, fuel cells, and water purification systems.

In addition, Carl has experience in mine safety and firefighter safety technologies, aerospace, automotive/transportation, and food processing.
