Alastair McCulloch is an intellectual property lawyer, advising on patents, trademarks, copyright, designs, and confidential information. He joined Jones Day in April 2005 from the boutique intellectual property firm Bristows, where he had been a partner since 2001.

Alastair's practice is focused on litigating technical matters, especially high-technology patents. He has conducted cases in the fields of pharmaceuticals, electronics and computer systems, chemicals, medical devices, physics, and mechanics.

As well as practising in cases before the English courts (including the Patents Court, the Patents County Court, and the Court of Appeal), he is experienced in cases before the European Patent Office. Many of his cases have been international in nature, and he has extensive experience in multijurisdictional disputes, having coordinated with parallel proceedings in the U.S., Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hong Kong, and Australia. His experience includes cases where competition defences have played a prominent role.

Alastair also advises on transactional matters where intellectual property is important, including licensing, R&D, confidentiality, distribution, and broadcasting agreements.

Alastair is recommended in the Chambers UK and Chambers Europe directories. He is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents and a member of AIPPI and AIPLA.
