Mihali Palassis has significant experience acting as counsel and instructor on high-profile and complex disputes in superior courts, including the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia. Mihali has experience in commercial, insolvency, and regulatory matters in a range of sectors, including resources, financial services, funds, property, and agriculture.
Mihali has advised on corporate and commercial disputes and noncontentious matters involving transaction-related instructions such as change of control disputes, directors' duties, shareholder oppression, misleading and deceptive conduct, and insolvency.
Mihali also has acted and advised on corporate and contentious regulatory matters, including ASIC (Australian Securities and Investment Commission) and ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) investigations and prosecutions under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) and the Australian Securities and Investment Commission Act 2001 (Cth).
In recent years, Mihali has gained significant experience in managing and resolving disputes in the resources sector. He has acted for a variety of clients in contentious and noncontentious areas, advising on land access, joint ventures, farm-outs, and other contractual and regulatory disputes for resources companies in M&A adjacent and insolvency-related matters (including acting for administrators and receivers). Mihali is a State Committee Secretary of the Energy and Resources Law Association (formerly AMPLA).
