TechniCLE Speaking 2017: CLEaring Our Runway

May 25, 2017

Jones Day Cleveland
North Point
901 Lakeside Avenue
Cleveland, Ohio 44114-1190

1:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

TechniCLE Speaking is a half-day series of panel discussions and public debate generated through audience participation.

Founded in 2015 as a joint initiative between Cleveland City Council and Jones Day, TechniCLE Speaking is a civic advocacy event conceived in response to recurring concerns about the long-term growth and sustainability of Cleveland’s technology and entrepreneurship sectors, and their impact on the region’s future economic development. The event fosters dialogue between key stakeholders interested in facilitating the success of tech entrepreneurship in Northeast Ohio.

The events of the past year have required all of us to rethink conventional wisdom and ask difficult questions about how to proceed in an uncertain future largely shaped by macroeconomic factors beyond our control. There are important decisions to be made in Cleveland and the region in 2017. The concerns and ambitions of local entrepreneurs and technology companies must shape this dialogue.  In in effort to spearhead the dialogue, the 2017 TechniCLE Speaking summit will focus on issues faced by our local startup companies in extending their runway, such as access to local capital, and larger questions of regional economic development, such as how to prepare for and seize upon emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence and big data, particularly in health care.

This year, leading professionals in the financial, entrepreneur, academic, government, and policy sectors will engage in a dialogue on what we need to be successful, share innovative ideas and thought leadership on emerging opportunities in Cleveland, and identify our region’s next steps in carving out a successful space in the global economy. We want you to be part of the dialogue. We hope to see you on the afternoon of May 25th.

Session 1 - Extending Our Runway: Rethinking Our Capital Ecosystem - This discussion, a follow-up to TechniCLE Speaking 2015, will address new plans to revamp our capital ecosystem statewide through both public and private avenues and will examine the new partnerships needed here in Cleveland.

Session 2 - Securing Sustainable Momentum: The Cleveland Collective - Community breakout sessions moderated by Remesh’s artificial intelligence technology will feed into a collective discussion with key civic and community leaders that develops concrete steps for addressing the challenges faced by Northeast Ohio’s tech and entrepreneurship sectors.

Session 3 - Tech Disruption: Artificial Intelligence, Big Data & Health Care - This trend-setting dialogue will focus on putting Cleveland at the forefront of the opportunities and challenges accompanying the rapidly accelerating advancements in artificial intelligence and big data in the health care sector.
